Bradenton Heater Installation and Replacement
Picking Heat for a House That Runs It Twelve Nights a Year
Nobody replaces a heater in a panic here. Either the heat failed last January, and they put off the cost, or the equipment is old enough that they’d rather choose the replacement than have it chosen for them. Homeowners have time, which is the one advantage this decision holds over the rest of their system calls.
Richard's Home Services opened in 1980 and has worked this market ever since. We'll show you your heating options, how each performs on a cold morning, and which one your house is set up for. Then the choice is yours.
Call (941) 326-4742 or use our online form to set up a heater installation quote in Bradenton. We'll size the equipment at your house and put the options side by side.

The Two Ways a House Here Makes Heat
Almost nothing in this market burns gas for heat, so the decision comes down to a heat pump or an electric air handler with resistance strips.
Compare them on how they run, not on the number at the bottom of the quote:
- Heat pump – The outdoor unit reverses in winter, moving heat indoors instead of producing it, which costs less per hour and can keep a house in the low 40s. January lows here sit in the low- to mid-50s, so that covers most of your winter.
- Electric strips alone – Resistance coils in the air handler make heat straight from electricity. The equipment costs less up front, and the power bill runs higher every hour it's on, which weighs differently when you run heat a dozen nights.
- A heat pump with strips as backup – The common setup here. The pump carries the house, and the strips fill in on the coldest mornings. We set the changeover point at startup so the strips only come on when the pump can't keep up.
Note that the cheapest option on paper is sometimes the right one. We'll price whichever of the three fits your house and duct layout, and say so plainly when the smaller job is the better buy.
Why the Heat and the Cooling Are One Purchase
If your heat lives inside a heat pump, the machine you're replacing is the same one cooling you from April through October. That means you're buying nine months of cooling and a dozen cold nights with a single check, and judging the quote on heating alone gets you the wrong equipment.
That's why our technician reads the cooling side during the same visit, so the recommendation accounts for how the equipment performs in August. We also handle the electrical trade in this shop, so the circuit feeding the air handler gets checked while we're there.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heater Installation
Replacement raises questions a repair call never does. The following come up on most heating quote visits, and a technician will answer anything the list misses.
Do I Need a Heat Pump If I Only Run Heat a Few Weeks a Year?
Not necessarily. If your air handler is sound and you're only replacing the heat, strips alone can be the cheaper answer. However, when the cooling equipment is nearing the end anyway, the heat pump wins because it earns back its cost over the cooling season.
Can You Add Heat to a System That Only Cools?
Sometimes. Some air handlers accept a heat strip kit if the cabinet and the circuit support it, and that's a smaller job than a full changeout. We check the model and the panel capacity before quoting it.
How Cold Does It Get before a Heat Pump Stops Keeping Up?
Most heat pumps can keep a house warm on their own into the low 40s. Below that, the backup strips come on to fill the gap, which is why the changeover setting matters more here than the equipment's cold-weather rating.
Will a New System Change My Power Bill in Winter?
Depending on which heat you install, yes. A heat pump moves heat rather than making it, so it draws less power per hour than resistance strips do. We'll walk you through what each option means for the months you run heat.
